I’m pretty excited to be writing this blog post as I will talk about a new idea, web scraping for e-commerce. Now many people are aware of the fact that there is an opportunity in e-commerce by starting on the Amazon FBA course. However, not too many people are aware of web scraping for e-commerce as there have only been a few articles written about it.
This post will teach you about web scraping for e-commerce and give you three different ways of making money with e-commerce data.
What Is Web Scraping?
Web scraping can essentially be described as the process of extracting data from one website and then using that data to create something else. This mainly happens two ways:
- by accessing content like a website’s address or URL and copying it into a text document;
- by accessing the data of a website using a program.
What Is E-Commerce?
E-commerce is the act of selling and buying goods or services over the internet. E-commerce has become increasingly popular in recent years, with three out of every four people making an online purchase every month. The internet opened up a whole new world for consumers because it allowed them to shop from any location, at any time, and completely changed our shopping behavior.
The revenue of e-commerce is projected to rise from $10.36 trillion in 2020 to an estimated $27.15 trillion by 2027, with the largest increase being in China. The following companies are currently dominating the e-commerce market:
- Alibaba Group,
- eBay Inc.,
- JD.com Inc.,
- and Tencent Holdings Ltd.
How to Make Money Online With E-Commerce Data Right Now!
Being able to get online data and use it to make money can be quite a lucrative business. The main aspect of web scraping for e-commerce is finding some way of making money from the data you have collected/scraped from a website.
There are three different ways that you can use web scraping for e-commerce:
(1) Offline systems
This is the process of collecting data from a website by using a software program. Tools like Screaming Frog and Screembox are the most common ones. You set a search string, and then the software will go to that website and scrape all of the data from it (which includes content, images, CSS code etc.). Within this data, you get all of the information that you want on that website.
The downside is that this takes a lot of effort to get all of the information that you need. It will take a lot of time, and you will have to do a lot of scraping manually. Obviously, the more websites that you do this on, the more time it will take. If you want to scrape their information for the rest of your business, you will have to pay.
(2) Online systems
This is the process of using a website or another online system to scrape data for you so that you can use it later. The good thing about this method is that it does not require any technical skills, and you don’t have to spend much time on it because you can just leave it running in the background and go about your day.
The downside is that you will need to pay for the data to be scraped. The price for this depends on how much you are willing to pay and how big the website is that you are scraping. I will go further into this in more detail later.
This method is basically a combination of both (1) and (2). This is the process of using a tool like Screaming Frog, then uploading it on an online system like Screembox. You will get all of your data within seconds, and you won’t need to wait for hours.
The downside of this method is that it does cost money. It will cost you to get the software and a monthly fee for the online system.
There are serious money makers for e-commerce. Whether you want to use a tool, an online system, or a combination of both to make money, it is totally up to you. You can go anywhere with this, and I encourage all of you to read this article to give it a try if you like the idea.
